A world at War: Peace mediation and the role of Italy

What role can Italy play in peace mediation? The event will discuss the transformation of peace mediation at the global level and the role that Italy can have in this new scenario. The discussion will be informed by the policy paper on “Italy and Mediation” by the Agency for Peacebuilding. The policy paper will be presented for the first time during the event and distributed to all participants.

Il Bologna Peacebuilding Forum 2024 si apre alla cittadinanza e insieme alla Fraternal Compagnia porta in scena al Teatro del Baraccano lo spettacolo “Pace Libera Tutti”. L’evento culturale, in italiano e a ingresso libero, ha l’obiettivo di diffondere i temi importanti del Forum come la mediazione di pace con un pubblico attivo e responsabile.

Pace Libera Tutti parla dell’umano, delle condizioni sociali e relazionali che portano gli individui a mantenere la propria condizione di pace interiore o ad infrangerla. Perché è da sé che occorre partire, per vivere in pace, cioè in condivisa armonia e in assenza di tensioni e conflitti. Seguendo il ritmo incalzante delle scene, gli spettatori vivranno l’epopea della Pace che si mostrerà nella sua viva concretezza attraverso la forza di un dipinto, nelle strategie dei rapporti di forza che governano il mondo in una ideale partita a scacchi, oppure attraverso la voce dei disertori e nell’ironia clownesca degli incontri quotidiani. Uno spettacolo che parla dell’umano attraverso la commedia e che ne svela, tramite la comicità, l’indole pacifica, facendo nascere la riflessione da un sorriso.

 The Bologna Peacebuilding Forum 2024 opens up to the public and the Fraternal Compagnia brings to the stage at the Teatro del Baraccano the show “Pace Libera Tutti”.

The cultural event aims to spread the important themes of the Forum artistically. The show is in Italian but designed so that even those who do not speak the language can enjoy it.

Pace Libera Tutti speaks of the human being, the social and relational conditions that lead individuals to maintain their condition of inner peace or to break it. To live in peace is necessary to start living in peace with oneself, in shared harmony, and the absence of tensions and conflicts. Following the pressing rhythm of the scenes, spectators will experience the epic of Peace, which will show itself in its vivid concreteness through the power of a painting, in the strategies of the power relationships that govern the world in an ideal chess game, or through the voices of deserters and in the clownish irony of everyday encounters. A show that speaks of the human being through comedy and that reveals its peaceful nature, making reflection arise from a smile.

Written and performed by the civil theatre group Fraternal Compagnia.

Directed by Massimo Macchiavelli, music by Umberto Cavalli.

Workshop: Media e Peacebuilding

Il workshop “Media e Peacebuilding” ha l’obiettivo di stimolare la riflessione sul ruolo dei media nei conflitti e nella costruzione della pace, cercando di capire da un lato come si può raccontare la complessità dei conflitti violenti negli spazi limitati dei mezzi di comunicazione, e dall’altro come informarsi, monitorare e posizionarsi rispetto ad una situazione di conflitto in modo consapevole e approfondito.

La narrazione di un conflitto può avere un impatto sulle dinamiche dello stesso conflitto. I media, soprattutto quelli internazionali, possono da un lato essere influenzati, ma dall’altro influenzare governi e organizzazioni internazionali, giocando parzialmente il ruolo di agenda setters. Al contempo, i media possono anche giocare un ruolo di prevenzione dei conflitti. In particolare, i media locali spesso portano risultati non tangibili ma fondamentali per la costruzione della pace in comunità colpite dalle guerre (come un aumento nel livello di fiducia reciproca o l’acquisizione di agency da parte di attori precedentemente marginalizzati). In ogni caso, i media svolgono un ruolo fondamentale. Ma come non cadere nella feticizzazione della violenza? C’è un mezzo più adatto di altri per raccontare i conflitti di oggi? Canali istantanei come Twitter o Telegram favoriscono l’informazione rispetto ai canali mainstream? Come leggere un conflitto attraverso i social network? Bisogna aspirare ad un’informazione neutrale?

Il workshop interattivo organizzato e facilitato dall’Agenzia per il Peacebuilding (AP) affronta queste ed altre domande insieme a Emanuele Valenti, inviato di Radio Popolare, che porterà la sua esperienza dal mondo del giornalismo. Alle persone partecipanti sarà fornito materiale di preparazione in vista dell’incontro.

Il workshop, in italiano, è indirizzato a giovani, studenti e studentesse, ed è a numero chiuso. La partecipazione sarà subordinata ad un processo di selezione tramite application a questo link.
